From the East:

Summertime is almost over and I hope all my Brothers have an opportunity to take a good vacation and escape the Phoenix heat some time during the summer. We have been working on doing a makeover of the lodge room and the repaint is nearly complete with much more still to come. We will begin the fall season with a bang, with an FC degree on September 11 and an EA degree on September 25. The FC degree may have multiple candidates. So come on up and see the changes we are making to the lodge room and welcome our new candidates into the fraternity. It is becoming hard to extol the fellowship of Masonry to new candidates when they are coming from darkness to light to see an empty lodge room. Our officers also doing their proficiencies also need your support.

We have a picnic committee chaired by Clinton Molodow planning a lodge picnic this fall. Any brothers who wish to participate or help out can contact Clint at 602-418-3906. Watch for an announcement on a date soon.

I would like to express my gratitude to Jay David, Dave Beacco, Clint Molodow, Gustavo Rodriguez and Jon Logan for all the work they have put into the lodge during the summer.

On September there will be a Past Master’s Night at Oriental Lodge # 20 in Mesa. I am planning to attend and hope we can get enough Master Mason’s together to have a  Lodge Visitation. We missed the Senior and Junior Warden’s nights in August. It will be a MM degree and all parts in the degree are done by Past Masters. There is also a great steak dinner before Lodge opens (for a donation), served by the Rainbow Girls and Job’s Daughters. It’s always a good time.

We are also working together a group to travel to Prescott for the outdoor degree on Sept. 20, also a MM degree. Lunch is some of the best barbeque you ever tasted!

                                                                                    Fraternally,

                                                                                    Jim Drake PM, Worshipful Master

From the West:

Brethren, I am looking for any and all help and volunteers to take part as an officer, Senior Deacon, Junior Deacon, Stewards, Marshall or Chaplain. Also, you can help the Lodge by being active on a committee. Some of the committees are Bikes for Books, School Essay, Widows, Lodge Picnic, Sickness and Distress and others. PLEASE volunteer. This is your Lodge, so please be willing to do some work for your Lodge.

For our members who cannot drive at night, if there is enough interest, we will hold a degree next year during daylight hours on a Saturday. I want you to feel that your Lodge is willing to do activities that can accommodate your schedule.

For those brothers who come to the Stated Meetings, dinner is on the Lodge. Also, Come to a meeting and see what has been done to decorate the Lodge room. WB Jim Drake has been working to improve the Lodge room.

Remember, this is Your Lodge. Come out and support your Lodge. If you need to contact me to volunteer for an officer or committee, or let me know that you would enjoy a daylight meeting, please call me in the evenings at 520-979-7003 or e-mail me at JDG323@msn.com.

Fraternally,

Jeff D. Grayson, PM

Senior Warden

Official Visit of Junior Grand Deacon

WB Richard McNeill, Jr., the Junior Grand Deacon, will be paying an official visit to Thunderbird 15 on our Stated Meeting night, November 6th. Our Junior Grand is a member of Flagstaff Lodge #7 and Central Arizona #14 in Sedona. WB McNeill, a true gentleman, resides in   Flagstaff and is a Professor at NAU. He was also instrumental in putting on the wonderful and memorable Grand Communication we had in Flagstaff in 2007. Let’s turn out and give a warm reception to our visiting Grand Lodge officer.

Good Reading:

Freemasonry and the Birth of Modern Science, by Robert Lomas. About Robert Moray and why the Royal Society came about. The Royal Society was instrumental in moving Science out of the Dark Ages to the Restoration and on to the Modern Science we have today. The list of early members includes names like Hooke, Boyle, Newton, Leibnitz and Brown. Politics, intrigue, philosophy and religion – this book has it all. Found at Border’s Books for $3.95 on the specials table.
